Definition (Simplex). Let $x_1,\dots ,x_d$ be some points. They form a simplex if $x_1-x_d,x_2-x_d,\dots ,x_{d-1}-x_d$ are linearly independent. In other words, they do not lie in a $(d-2)$-dimensional affine space.
